Kate Winslet Shares How She Boosted Her Libido as She Got Older: ‘You’ll Feel Sexy Again’

Kate Winslet has opened up about the steps she took to enhance her sex drive as she aged.

The 48-year-old Lee actress revealed on a September 10 episode of the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast that her libido significantly improved after undergoing testosterone replacement therapy. Winslet’s candid discussion emerged as she answered a listener’s question about how to reignite her sexual desire with a longtime partner.

“Sometimes women experience a real decline in libido, which can be caused by thyroid issues or low testosterone levels,” Winslet shared. She went on to explain that while many people may not realize it, women also produce testosterone, and a dip in these levels could affect their sex drive.

“Testosterone in women is like eggs — once it’s gone, it’s gone,” Winslet elaborated. “But it can be replaced, and once you do, you’ll start feeling sexy again … I know this from personal experience.”

Winslet encouraged the listener to check both her thyroid and testosterone levels, emphasizing that these factors can directly influence how one feels. “It’s not your fault if your libido dips. Our bodies are complicated and change in strange ways, especially as we age,” the Oscar winner reassured.

She added that hormone imbalances could play a larger role in how someone feels about intimacy than they may realize. Winslet advised the listener to explore this option, suggesting that testing her hormone levels could provide clarity.

Furthermore, the Titanic star emphasized the importance of being compassionate with oneself during such transitions, reminding the listener to practice self-kindness while navigating these changes.

During the podcast, Winslet also addressed body positivity and the pressures women in their 40s often face. “We’re so conditioned to think that as we get older, we’re approaching the end,” she explained. “We think menopause means the end of sex, sagging breasts, and crepey skin. But honestly, so what? That’s just societal conditioning.”

Winslet believes that as women age, they grow even sexier and more confident in their own skin. “Women get juicier and more empowered as they embrace their truth. They care less about what the world thinks, and that’s a beautiful thing,” she said. Winslet added that she frequently compliments her friends, telling them, “You look amazing.”

Winslet has been vocal about her views on aging and body image. In a 2023 interview with Vogue, she discussed feeling “brave” about on-screen nudity, emphasizing that she’s done wasting energy on self-criticism. “I know better now. It’s pointless to spend time criticizing myself physically,” she shared.

She further noted that women should focus on self-belief. “It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks; this is who I am. Let’s get on with it,” Winslet advised.

Lee, a historical drama based on the life of a model-turned-war photographer during World War II, will debut on September 27.
