Elon Musk has shut down speculation about any romantic involvement with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, following a recent event in New York where he complimented her. The tech billionaire clarified on Wednesday, stating that there is “no romantic relationship” between the two. This statement came after he referred to Meloni as “beautiful” during an awards ceremony on Monday.
Musk took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to address the rumors. He posted a photo of himself and Meloni engaging in conversation at a gala dinner, emphasizing that he attended the event with his mother and that no romantic connection existed. He directly stated, “I was there with my Mom. There is no romantic relationship whatsoever with PM Meloni.”
At the event, Musk presented Meloni with the Global Citizen Award, an honor given by the Atlantic Council think tank. While doing so, he offered glowing remarks about the Italian leader, calling her “someone who is even more beautiful inside than outside” and describing her as “authentic, honest, and thoughtful.” These words, while complimentary, fueled rumors of a deeper connection, which Musk has now denied.
Meloni, in turn, expressed her admiration for Musk, referring to his “precious genius” during the same event. She went on to deliver a heartfelt speech defending Western values, a theme she has championed throughout her leadership. At the conclusion of her speech, Musk, seated next to his mother, gave a standing ovation, further solidifying the camaraderie between the two public figures.
This isn’t the first time Musk and Meloni have crossed paths. The two have met on multiple occasions in recent years, bonding over shared concerns about the declining birth rates in the West and a mutual interest in the advancement of artificial intelligence. Musk has visited Rome several times, including his participation in Meloni’s political party festival in December, and has publicly praised Italy’s immigration policies under her government.
In the last few months, Musk has also expressed support for various right-wing political figures globally.
