Tech mogul Elon Musk stirred controversy on Sunday, claiming that Donald Trump must win the upcoming presidential election in November to safeguard America’s democracy. Musk, who is no stranger to bold political statements, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his concerns over what he believes is a dire situation.
“Very few Americans realize that, if Trump is NOT elected, this will be the last election,” Musk wrote, sharing his thoughts on the platform. He further added, “Far from being a threat to democracy, he is the only way to save it!”
Musk elaborated on his views, presenting a theory where he accuses Democrats of fast-tracking a process to grant citizenship to individuals who have immigrated illegally to the U.S. According to Musk, these new citizens would likely support Democratic candidates in future elections, thereby skewing the political landscape in their favor. He predicted this scenario could have significant consequences on future elections, especially in swing states.
“Let me explain: if even 1 in 20 illegals become citizens per year, something that the Democrats are expediting as fast as humanly possible, that would be about 2 million new legal voters in 4 years,” Musk wrote. “The voting margin in the swing states is often less than 20 thousand votes. That means if the ‘Democratic’ Party succeeds, there will be no more swing states!!”
The billionaire has openly endorsed Trump’s re-election campaign, further criticizing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their handling of immigration policies. Musk specifically accused the current administration of strategically flying asylum-seekers to critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Arizona with the aim of altering electoral outcomes.
Following Musk’s statements, The Hill reached out to representatives from the White House, the Harris campaign, and the Trump campaign to seek a response regarding these assertions.
Immigration has once again become a central issue in the ongoing election campaign, with Trump intensifying his rhetoric on the topic. Over the weekend, Trump escalated his attacks on Vice President Harris, calling for her impeachment over her handling of immigration matters. On his Truth Social platform, Trump accused Harris of being complicit in what he described as a massive crime involving the illegal entry of migrants.
“Kamala’s Illegal Migrants. It’s the biggest crime story of our time. She should resign or be IMPEACHED!” Trump wrote on Saturday.
These remarks came on the heels of Harris’s visit to the southern border on Friday. Trump’s criticism did not stop there. While campaigning in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, he accused Harris of bearing responsibility for a significant number of deaths linked to border policies. “Hundreds of people have been murdered because of her action at the border, and thousands more will follow in rapid succession. She should be impeached and prosecuted for her actions,” Trump proclaimed to his audience.
Harris, meanwhile, has tried to counter Trump’s attacks by positioning herself as a tough advocate for border control. However, she also took aim at Trump, blaming him for the breakdown of a bipartisan border bill. During a rally in Nevada in August, she said, “But Donald Trump doesn’t want to fix this problem. He talks a big game about a lot of things. But he talks a big game about border security, but he does not walk the walk.”
Both candidates continue to spar over immigration policies, with each trying to position themselves as the best choice to handle the ongoing crisis. As the election approaches, this issue is expected to remain at the forefront of their campaigns.
