The Los Angeles Chargers have sealed the deal with Jim Harbaugh to be their head coach. Today’s agreement brings Harbaugh back to the Chargers, where he once played as a quarterback in 1999 and 2000. For the past nine years, he’s been at the helm of the University of Michigan’s football program, achieving notable success, including three Big Ten Championships and leading the Wolverines to a perfect 15-0 record last season, resulting in them being crowned the 2023 National Champions.

Owner and Chairman of the Board, Dean Spanos, expressed his confidence in Harbaugh, calling him the embodiment of football. Harbaugh, with a rich coaching history over the last two decades, has earned praise for his leadership and success on the field.

President of Football Operations, John Spanos, highlighted Harbaugh’s track record of building strong teams. Harbaugh’s coaching prowess is evident in his impressive record, including coaching nine first-round selections during his time at Michigan and leading the San Francisco 49ers to three consecutive NFC Championship Games, including a Super Bowl appearance.

Harbaugh brings a winning mindset, boasting a 144-52 record as a collegiate head coach and a 49-22-1 record as an NFL head coach. His talent identification and player development skills have played a crucial role in his coaching success.

In his own words, Harbaugh expressed gratitude for the opportunity to coach the Chargers, emphasizing his priorities of faith, family, and football. He acknowledged the organization’s hard work and investments in their pursuit of success.

Harbaugh’s coaching achievements at Michigan include an 86-25 record, three consecutive College Football Playoff appearances, and a national title in the 2023 season. His teams consistently featured a top defense in the nation, showcasing his coaching acumen.

Harbaugh’s earlier coaching positions includes his time at Stanford University, the University of San Diego, and with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, where he was honored as the NFL Coach of the Year in 2011.

Harbaugh’s journey in football began as an NFL quarterback for 15 years, playing for five different teams, including the Chargers. He transitioned into coaching while still playing, starting as a quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders. Harbaugh’s college football career at the University of Michigan was equally impressive, earning him recognition as one of the most efficient passers in history.

The Los Angeles Chargers are thrilled to welcome Jim Harbaugh as their head coach, confident in his ability to bring success to the team based on his extensive experience and impressive coaching track record.
