Julián Ortega, known for his role in the popular series “Elite,” has tragically passed away at the age of 41.
On Sunday, August 25, Ortega suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at Playa de Zahora beach in Cádiz, Spain, as reported by The Olive Press. Despite earlier claims that he had drowned, it was later confirmed that the incident happened on shore at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time. Paramedics arrived quickly and attempted to resuscitate Ortega for 30 minutes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Spanish Union of Actors and Actresses confirmed the heartbreaking news on Monday, August 26, releasing an obituary to honor him. “Our deepest condolences to his family and friends from the Union of Actors and Actresses,” they expressed. “Rest in peace.”
Ortega gained recognition for his role in the first season of Netflix’s teen drama “Elite,” where he appeared in six episodes. His acting repertoire also includes notable appearances in “Cable Girls,” “Caronte,” “Velvet,” and “The Countryside.” His most recent work was in the Spanish soap opera “4 Estrellas.” According to his obituary, Ortega was a graduate of the esteemed Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático in Madrid.
Following his sudden passing, tributes poured in from friends, colleagues, and fans on social media. Stage and screen actress Sílvia Marsó shared her grief on Instagram, posting a selfie with Ortega and writing, “I can’t even imagine how these parents, colleagues, so beloved in the profession, are feeling. How horrible.”
Actress Helena Lanza also paid homage to Ortega, saying, “Julian, I will always remember you. An empathetic, kind, generous, intelligent, talented being. How I enjoyed watching him on stage and how I loved sharing plans with him. How many talks together and how many laughs we’ve had.”
Raquel Guerrero, another fellow actress, reflected on her time with Ortega, stating, “A pleasure to have been able to share a bit of this life and be able to enjoy your education, your humility and your work.”
