Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About “Scary” Experience Working with Ben Affleck in New Doc

Jennifer Lopez recently revealed that working with her husband Ben Affleck on her new documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” was a nerve-wracking experience.

At the documentary’s premiere in Los Angeles, the 54-year-old singer participated in a Q&A session, where she discussed the challenges of being so vulnerable on camera, especially alongside someone who wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about the whole thing.

“It was very scary to share my life and be so open,” Lopez admitted. “The other scary part was bringing in my husband, who was kind of the reluctant participant, the silent participant.”

She admitted to jokingly telling Affleck during filming, “Is this weird?” to which he simply replied, “Yes.”

“I told him he was crazy, not me,” Lopez said with a laugh. “But I know I’m the crazy one sometimes. I get that part.”

Despite the initial apprehension, Lopez acknowledged the importance of vulnerability in art. “As an artist, you have to be vulnerable,” she explained. “You have to get down to the real parts of yourself to share what it’s like to be human. And that is a scary thing to do.”

While Lopez is no stranger to the spotlight, she emphasized the difference between performing and baring her soul. “People might think I’m so used to being in front of a camera and I’m comfortable with it, and that’s true,” she said. “But this wasn’t like reading a script, playing a character, or singing a song. This was sharing my deepest thoughts and living my life on camera, which was necessary for the story, but definitely scary.”

Interestingly, despite calling Affleck a “reluctant participant,” Lopez also revealed it was his idea to document certain aspects of her life. “It wasn’t my initial thought to film everything,” she confessed. “But as we started, my husband, who had a front-row seat to the whole thing, suggested capturing it. He brought in this amazing team, and that’s kind of how it all came together.”

The documentary explores Lopez and Affleck’s 20-year journey, including their initial engagement in 2002, their split in 2004, and their rekindled romance in 2021. It even delves into their reflections, with Affleck asking Lopez at one point if she’s forgiven him for the past.

“I think I was angry for a long time,” Lopez admits in the documentary. “But that heartbreak led us both on a path of self-discovery and made us better people. I think I’ve forgiven you completely. Now, I just need to forgive myself for a few things too.”

The couple re-engaged in April 2022 and tied the knot in Las Vegas that July. They later celebrated with a larger ceremony in Georgia, where Lopez wore three stunning Ralph Lauren wedding dresses.

Earlier this month, Lopez even reminisced about one of her wedding looks in a video with Vogue, discussing the challenges of navigating her voluminous Ralph Lauren dress with a thousand handkerchiefs.

“We wanted the wedding to be traditionally Latin but also have a Southern Belle feel,” Lopez revealed about the inspiration behind the dress, before adding with a laugh, “It was beautiful, but let me tell you, that train was a nightmare to walk in!”
